There are two different experiences, both called “Big Brother”.
One is the television show Big Brother, as the CBS producers present it to broadcast tv audiences, three times per week. But the other is what is actually going on in the Big Brother house; the experience of the house guests, unfiltered — or at least less filtered — by television editors.
Fetchland presents Ruining Big Brother. It’s less “spoiling” Big Brother and more pulling back the curtain, to ruin our collective illusions about reality television. Enjoy! Or better yet, recoil in horror…

July 15th was basically a feeds-free day during daylight hours with the houseguests only coming on the screen briefly in the morning after the HOH nominations. Paulie surprised nobody when he put up Tiffany and Natalie for eviction. Then the feeds went out for the rest of the day to return late at night after the Roadkill competition. They were making dinner after eleven o’clock so it must’ve been a mighty long challenge. Once the feeds returned we learned that household power changed hands once again when Tiffany won the Roadkill competition and told only Frank/Bridgette. So, if their alliance wasn’t solidified before, it definitely is now. They high-five in the Have-Not bumper car room and then Tiffany secretly nominates Corey for eviction. If he ends up getting evicted this week, the entire Big Brother house dynamic would shift once again into a whole new dimension of gameplay. What will happen to those showmancers? Love on the rocks is what.
In the meantime Paulie succumbs to a raging case of HOHitis, holding court in various houseguest configurations while proudly sporting a pair of cranky grandpa bossypants. He’s due for a major takedown because Paulie keeps declaring how Tiffany can’t beat him in the Power of Veto competition and such proclamations are rarely followed with victory. Statistically speaking, unless you’re Muhammed Ali, overconfidence and underestimating one’s opponent foretells failure and sometimes even agonizing humiliation. But we don’t wish Paulie ill-will… it’s just that sometimes we make predictions based on Big Brother precedent. Those on pedestals often fall farthest.
Paul gives a solo “late night friendship with Paul” talk at around 3:30AM to chat about various topics but mostly about his beard. The one audience question the houseguests received on the live show Thursday was whether Paul would shave it to stay in the house. So, in his “friendship talk” he said please don’t make me do that, guys. It’ll be all pale under there and it took four years to grow. It’s cute (and wrong) that Paul thinks it’s up to us. America has zero power this season on Big Brother, at least thus far, anyway.
Right now we think the most interesting partnership in the house remains James and Mama Day. Fiercely loyal to each other, they roll with external punches while looking out for their interests as a duo. It seems like they both have the long term game top-of-mind in a way the other houseguests don’t. Right now it looks like Day and James may drop the showmancers (Corey/Nicole & Paulie/Zak) in order to work with Frank and Tiffany instead, or at least in addition… but we’ll soon find out how it all shakes out for real. At one point on the evening of July 15th James points out to Frank and Nicole that, “It could’ve just stayed us four,” and sighs, speaking about how the returners could have kept their alliance strong. He and Mama Day have talked about this before as well. They’ve kept their side of the returner alliance strong but Nicole and Frank both veered off on their own paths. In fact, now Nicole and Frank are on opposite sides even as they pretend to still have a Final2 pact with each other. It’s as if they each have a pair of crossed fingers permanently behind their backs.
As of around 3:30AM Frank and Tiffany are making games plans together including that he’ll take her off the nomination block if he wins the Veto this week. “Can you imagine the look on their faces?” he asks about the showmancers. Meanwhile Natalie and James have a flirty, non-game late night rendezvous in a bumper car. The other two showmances share the HOH bed for the night. Paulie and Zakiyah snuggle up on one side while Corey and Nicole share the other. They seem a bit oblivious to the storms raging below them in the rest of the house, which just means it’s going to be that much more fun when the rains finally fall on it all.
Quote of the day:
Paulie says, “If Tiffany would have just kept her mouth shut and stayed loyal, I would have just back doored her,” from his pedestal.
